2018: The Year that broke a record concerning tourism in Greece.
2018 is the year that broke a record in incomes coming from the tourism sector, with a double-digit raise in this area. The arrivals of foreign visitors reached the number of 32 millions of tourists, after three continuous years of high level performance, in Greek tourism.
Those excellent achievements didn’t just happen. The Greek National Tourism Organization, is the public touristic sector of the country, which by following the strategic directions of the Ministry of Tourism and of the Minister Ms. Elena Kountoura, is implementing a dynamic and multilateral program for the global promotion of Greece as a leading, secure, Polynesian as well as continental destination, which offers authentic experiences of thematic tourism 365 days the year.
Extensively in 2018, GNTO:
Finally it implemented marketing promotion of Greece to top international media and the biggest foreign and international TV Channels, like CNN. With the new program Greece is promoted globally:
1) At the biggest digital and traditional international media NEW YORK TIMES ( NYTimes.Com), CNN International, National Geographic, Travel Channel and CNBC
2) In flights and in inflight magazines of big airplane industries: Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Scandinavian Traveler – SAS and KLM.
3) To the biggest travel platforms of the world: TRIP ADVISOR, EXPEDIA
4) Through Yahoo, in targeted audiences of upper socioeconomic profile in the Asian Continent and specifically in India and Japan, from where traditionally informations for competitive to our country Mediterranean destinations are being collected.
Also, for the first time this year, the innovative technology of identifying music (Shazam) with the moto «Sounds like summer, Sounds like GREECE», has been utilized.
Actions like this one, made Greece during 2017, to come up 7 places at the global ranking of competitiveness in tourism sector, in comparison to 2015. This is a fact, that has been illustrated at the 2017 report of the World Economic Forum, where our country occupies the 24th place at the ranking between 138 countries.
The performance of Greece concerning the effectiveness of the marketing and branding actions for attracting even more tourists, has of course played a decisive role. In this field Greece maintains the 43rd position and thus realizing a growth of 19 positions in comparison to 2015. The results of this report were presented at the 93 General Meeting of European Travel Commission, which took place in May 2017, in Porto of Portugal.
But first of all, Greece has been distinguished for another year, as a top destination, with the best beaches in Europe, at the International Touristic Exhibition MITT in Moscow (March 2018) and as the “Best Destination for Family Vacations” at the British awards «Travel Bulletin Star Awards 2018».
The Greek Islands are positioned on top of the world at the international travel awards of Condé Nast Traveller 2018 in London.
